It can be surprising to process that we finally have not just one but two Beetlejuice movie. Now it looks like Beetlejuice 3 is in the works according to Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairman/CEO Mike De Luca. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice took decades to get off the ground, but it looks like fans won’t be waiting anywhere near as long for a third film.
De Luca shared this exciting development while speaking with Deadline. The studio discussed various plans for upcoming projects that are in the works, and naturally the topic of a third Beetlejuice came up. The second film was a massive box office success, proving that there’s still plenty of life in the IP, so it’s certainly not a surprise that they’d want to continue their winning streak while the iron is hot.
With that said, it looks like they don’t have any definitive plans at the moment, but De Luca did say that work for sequels to both Beetlejuice Beetlejuice as well as A Minecraft Movie are “imminently. The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.”
It’s currently unclear where the story for Beetlejuice 3 could lead, but Michael Keaton would presumably return as the titular character. The second film revealed that he was still haunting Winona Ryder’s Lydia, and that would once again bring Jenna Ortega‘s Astrid, Lydia’s daughter, back into the fold as well.
Of course, nothing has been announced on that front, and we still haven’t heard whether or not Tim Burton would be back to direct. Though one can’t imagine a Beetlejuice film without his unique vision behind the camera, so hopefully he’s still onboard.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Beetlejuice 3 news as we have it. For now, though, it’s exciting for fans to know that the third installment of the series is “imminent.” Times have certainly changed since the original film first hit theaters.
