The release of Disney’s live-action Snow White remake is bringing controversy both old and new to the forefront. Now Melissa Barrera, who was controversially fired from Scream 7 following her own social media drama, has taken a stand to defend Snow White star Rachel Zegler.
The two stars have both showed their support for Palestine on social media. While Barrera was fired for her posts on the matter, Zegler was not, though she has still been a subject of controversy as a result. Now, with Snow White in theaters, Melissa Barrera has taken to social media to defend Zegler in a series of Story posts on Instagram.
As shared below, Barrera wrote the following about Zegler:
“A newly published hit piece in Variety Magazine attempts to paint Rachel Zegler as difficult and politically radical,” Barrera began. “It doesn’t. It makes her look cool as hell and full of integrity.”

Barrera also used her Instagram Story to point out that Variety writer Tatiana Siegel, who wrote about Zegler, also wrote several posts regarding Barrera and her similar Palestine comments. As mentioned, Barrera’s comments led to her being fired from the production of Scream 7. With Zegler, she made her comments after Snow White was in production, specifically mentioning to “free palestine” on a thread for the movie’s trailer debut.
What’s especially interesting in the case of Snow White, however, is that Zegler’s co-star Gal Gadot has differing political views being that she is Israeli and was a soldier in Israel’s Defense Forces. Though Zegler and Gadot are still said to have gotten along on the set of the film, there are still numerous other Snow White controversies that are constantly being discussed on social media.
Snow White has faced controversy over the decision to create the dwarves with CGI rather than dwarf actors, the decision to cast Zegler who is Latina as the titular character, and reshoots that have delayed the film’s release. As one of the most expensive movies ever made, it also underperformed during its opening weekend at the box office, adding to the conversation.
