Fans of the Tron franchise have been waiting quite some time for the third installment of Disney‘s sci-fi film franchise. Now the third entry, titled Tron: Ares, is scheduled to be released later this year – and Disney has finally released the first official trailer.
The Tron films have had a very interesting history. The first film, simply titled Tron, was released in 1982. It earned a cult following and by 2010, Disney finally released a sequel titled Tron: Legacy. Now, more than a decade later, Disney is finally giving fans the third Tron movie.
The footage depicts star Jared Leto‘s character, the titular Ares, as he enters the real world on a mission. The visuals are sleek and Nine Inch Nails composed the music which is incredible. With a real-world setting, it looks like a very different kind of movie from its predecessors, but in the best possible way.
Here’s the first official trailer for Tron: Ares:

As mentioned, it’s definitely a very different kind of movie from its predecessors. The original two Tron movies revolved more around characters from the real world entering the digital world. This time, however, we’re seeing the opposite happen as Ares navigates our real world. It looks like we’ll be seeing some very different action sequences as a result, including cop cars split apart by light cycle trails.
Joachim Rønning directed the film from a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. The cast, in addition to Jared Leto, includes Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monghan, Sarah Desjardins, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Gillian Anderson, and Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn.
The highly-anticipated follow-up, Tron: Ares, is scheduled to hit theaters later this year on October 10, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Tron news as we have it. For now, it’s exciting to see our first glimpse at the film and its stunning new soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails.
