With Lionsgate‘s appearance at CinemaCon, the studio made a major announcement regarding one of their biggest franchises. It looks like the fifth film in the John Wick series is finally happening. Additionally, Keanu Reeves is attached to return for the film, currently dubbed John Wick 5.
Fans are already preparing for the long-anticipated spin-off film Ballerina which is also set to include a small appearance by Reeves. Other such projects are also being developed by Lionsgate, including an anime prequel that will see Keanu Reeves return and a spin-off movie about the blind assassin Caine which will be directed by Donnie Yen.
As shared via Deadline, however, John Wick 5 is in the works with Chad Stahelski once again signing back to direct and produce. In addition to the return of Stahelski and Reeves, Thunder Road producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee are also returning to produce the sequel.
Other details regarding the project are currently being kept under wraps. However, it looks like the John Wick film franchise isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, with numerous spin-offs and tie-in projects in the works in addition to John Wick 5.
As fans know, John Wick was presumably dead by the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, but it looks like he may still be alive after all. It’s a good setup for a fifth installment that could see Keanu Reeves as John Wick using his newfound cover for a new mission. Of course, that’s speculation at this point, and we’ll have to see what Lionsgate might have up their sleeve regarding the project.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding John Wick 5 as we have them. For now, it’s exciting to not only know that Keanu Reeves is returning as the titular character, but that there are still so many other exciting projects set in the John Wick universe currently in the works.
