The newly-released live-action remake of Disney’s Snow White has finally hit theaters. As many suspected, however, the film is underperforming at the box office. Now the son of Snow White producer Marc Platt, Jonah Platt, has taken the opportunity to blast Rachel Zegler as the reason for the film’s failure.
It was recently reported that Platt had to fly to New York City in August to discuss a post Rachel Zegler made after the first Snow White trailer was released. Zegler followed the trailer up with a comment that said “free palestine,” though she refused to delete her comment even after speaking with Platt.
Now that this information has surfaced online, some individuals have criticized Platt’s efforts, and even called the Snow White producer “creepy as hell” according to THR. The user also stated that Platt’s efforts were “uncalled for,” and in a reply that’s since been deleted, Platt’s son Jonah responded with the following comment according to the outlet:
“You really want to do this? Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for.”
Platt continued to claim that Zegler’s comment not only harmed the film but all of the employees who worked on it and depended on a successful box office run:
“This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office. Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions. Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful. Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.”
One thing is for certain – even though Snow White has been released, it’s clear that the controversy which began when it first entered production is only going to continue. It’s certainly going to be a major conversation piece regarding various aspects in Hollywood as we keep an eye on the film and its performance.
