A number of fan-favorite superheroes are coming together for the upcoming MCU film Avengers: Doomsday. As with previous Avengers films, the movie will act as a major crossover event, with different characters coming together to face a major threat. In this particular scenario, the threat is Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, and it looks like some important characters are being brought in to face him in Avengers: Doomsday including the X-Men.
The X-Men superhero team have been gradually appearing throughout the MCU. With small appearances in The Marvels and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Deadpool & Wolverine was our biggest effort yet, and it looks like Avengers: Doomsday will surpass it. The cast for the film was recently announced and a number of X-Men cast members were confirmed for the project.
The cast members were past of Fox’s X-Men franchise which existed separately from the MCU until Disney acquired the studio. They’ve been slowly trying to merge the two continuities together in the years since, though it seems likely Disney will still introduce its own versions of the beloved X-Men ensemble in future MCU attempts. As for now, however, quite a few familiar faces have been announced.
The following X-Men actors were confirmed to be making appearances in Avengers: Doomsday:
- Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier
- Ian McKellen as Magneto
- Kelsey Grammer as Beast
- James Marsden as Cyclops
- Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler
- Rebecca Romijn as Mystique
The following actors all appeared in Fox’s original X-Men films, while Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer made special appearances in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels after the fact. Additionally, actor Channing Tatum has also been announced to appear.
While Tatum was never part of Fox’s original X-Men franchise, he was long attached to a Gambit movie that never came to be, and humorously referenced the part when he appeared as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine.
As such, Avengers: Doomsday sounds like a mutant-heavy endeavor for the MCU, and one that should further combine Fox’s franchise with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s also possible that this film, and the events of its follow-up Avengers: Secret Wars, will further set the stage for the MCU’s own mutant variants to appear.
