Actor Channing Tatum finally had the opportunity to play Gambit in the MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine. Now, excitingly enough, Channing Tatum is getting yet another opportunity for the upcoming Avengers film Avengers: Doomsday.
The new film seemingly unites several superhero teams and continuities as they prepare to fight one of the MCU’s biggest threats yet: Doctor Doom. Additionally, this Doctor Doom is being played by Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr., which makes the battle all the more complicated.
The Multiverse is obviously going to play a major part in the new film, which also sees several returning actors from the original X-Men film franchise. Channing Tatum’s Gambit will likely be appearing with these actors even though he never had the opportunity to get his own Fox X-Men movie off the ground prior to Disney’s acquisition of the studio.
The studio’s Gambit movie was stuck in development for years before being scrapped. The humorous nature of Deadpool & Wolverine and its story that revolved around forgotten timelines allowed Tatum’s Gambit to appear. While some fans expected that his appearance would be one-and-done, Channing Tatum is officially returning to reprise his role for Avengers: Doomsday.
Details regarding his return are being kept under wraps, as Marvel Studios only recently confirmed the cast members appearing in the film. It’s definitely interesting to see his involvement, however, especially as it not only references his unmade Gambit movie but further builds continuity with Deadpool & Wolverine.
Ultimately, only time will tell where this next endeavor takes his Deadpool & Wolverine character, and whether or not we could also expect an appearance in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. As for now, fans will be able to see Avengers: Doomsday, including the return of actor Channing Tatum as Gambit, next year on May 1, 2026.
