Disney Plus subscribers may be used to the streaming platform’s wealth of exclusive content. After all, it makes for a convenient evening when you want to view the latest show or movie from the comfort of your own couch. However, there are still plenty of major releases in theaters, and now one of the biggest theatrical movies of 2024 is available to stream on Disney Plus.
For those who missed the financial and critical hit, or those who simply want to revisit the feature, now is a perfect time. Disney Plus added the film to their streaming library and it includes a number of options that make it as great of an experience to see at home as possible. This includes options such as 4K resolution, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. It’s even available in 3D.
The film is being treated with the deluxe treatment for a reason, however, and that’s because it really was one of the biggest movies of 2024. With a $150 million budget it grossed $1.05 billion at the box office. As the third highest-grossing film of the year, it’s not only an event for Disney Plus subscribers to finally stream it from home, but for Disney to make it as accessible as possible.
The film is none other than Moana 2, a direct sequel to 2016’s Moana. Interestingly, the follow-up was originally planned as a Disney Plus exclusive. Ultimately, however, the decision was made to retool the film as a theatrical feature. This decision turned out to be a wise one as the movie outperformed its predecessor financially and even earned a nomination for Best Animated Feature Film at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
These accolades put the film on the radar for many fans, so if they haven’t already seen the flick or want to give it a chance, Disney Plus has made that incredibly easy to do so. Jason Hand, Dana Ledoux Miller, and David Derrick Jr. all directed the film from a screenplay by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson reprise their roles from the original film to play Moana and Maui, respectively.
With a live-action adaptation of Moana also currently in the works, that also makes it a perfect time for fans to revisit both animated movies in preparation. Ultimately, the 2024 feature is a great addition to the Disney Plus library, and one that should certainly put those home entertainment systems to good use.
