Mortal Kombat fans largely enjoyed the live-action film adaptation released in 2021. However, several major characters were notably absent, including fan-favorite Johnny Cage. Of course, Cage’s debut and several others were being saved for a hopeful follow-up, and now our first look at Johnny Cage in an official Mortal Kombat 2 still has been revealed.
Additionally, the looks at several other characters have also been revealed, courtesy of EW. Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon spoke with the outlet and opened up about Cage and how he’ll fit into the long-anticipated sequel. Here’s what he shared:
“You finally get to see Johnny Cage,” Boon began, further discussing Urban’s take on the character. “His integration into the Mortal Kombat story and universe is a big part of what this movie explores. He’s a washed-up Hollywood guy thrown into this magical, ultra-violent thing. Karl, his depiction of Johnny Cage is different than our games in some ways. He’s adding his own flare to it, but I think it’ll feel fresh. There’s like a novelty factor in there.”
The first look at Karl Urban as Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2 can be viewed below. Additional images include the first looks at Adeline Rudolph as Kitana and Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn with the return of Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion:

Director Simon McQuoid returned to direct the sequel and also shared with the outlet how much they’ll be expanding the scope of the franchise for Mortal Kombat 2:
“We go to lots of different realms, so that in itself gives the film a very distinct and varied visual approach,” McQuoid revealed.
“What I realized was go bigger, go bolder, don’t hold back, and really feed off the history of Mortal Kombat more,” McQuoid adds. “Just let it rip, and that’s what we’ve done.”
Mortal Kombat 2 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 24, 2025.
