The Marvel Cinematic Universe revolves around recurring cast members and characters. As such, while fans are used to many of these characters making new appearances, there are some that have since exited the franchise. Now one such fan-favorite Marvel actor has cast doubt on making a return to the MCU.
This will no doubt upset fans that were hoping such a return would be possible. After all, the Multiverse has proven just about anyone could come back, including actor Robert Downey Jr. who will be making his MCU return – albeit as Doctor Doom rather than Iron Man.
Still, though, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars seem to be likely projects for other fan-favorite actors to make returns even if they’re just cameos.
Now, as shared in an interview with InStyle, this particular actor doesn’t believe any such return could be possible. In fact, they believe their character should be left alone. Here’s what was shared:
“Natasha is dead,” Scarlett Johansson begins. “She is dead. She’s dead. Okay? They just don’t want to believe it. They’re like, ‘But she could come back!”
Johansson is referring to her character Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, who died during the events of Avengers: Endgame. Though the Multiverse would make a potential return for her quite possible, it seems as though Johansson is fine with the current conclusion of her character. After all, she did finally get a solo movie – a prequel – and it seemed to be all of the closure that Black Widow required.
Furthermore, she believes that her character already had her hero moment:
“Look, I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We’re going to have to let it go. She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment.”
If one considers her sacrifice during Avengers: Endgame her character’s “hero moment,” then she makes a good point. There isn’t much of a reason to bring the character back if she already fulfilled her destiny. MCU fans could make the same argument for the return of fellow Marvel actor Robert Downey Jr., of course, but his role as Doctor Doom will likely have more of an impact on the MCU than bringing back Johansson for a glorified cameo would.
As always, though, we’ll have to see what surprises head our way with the releases of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional news as we have it.
