Netflix subscribers are going to be inevitably disappointed by the streaming platform’s latest cancellation. It’s been revealed that Netflix has canceled a popular series after releasing three seasons on their streaming service.
As a result, the upcoming third season of the series will be its last. This was confirmed in a new statement delivered by Netflix. While they’re choosing to cancel the series with only three seasons, they also admitted that they were happy of the work accomplished during this time – but as the company has shown in the past, they aren’t scared to end a show.
While Netflix was happy with their work on the documentary series, which was first released in 2023, it seems as though ratings dropped too much over time. As such, while numbers were high internationally, they just weren’t high enough in France itself to justify a fourth season of the series.
Here’s what was shared via Cycling Weekly:
“Netflix will not produce a fourth season of its Tour de France: Unchained series,” the outlet reveals that Netflix confirmed. The outlet also adds the following statement from Netflix which further confirms that Tour de France: Unchained will come to an end with three seasons:
“After three seasons, we are naturally coming to an end of this cycle,” the statement read. “We’re very proud of the work we’ve done and of the public response to the documentary series, which has allowed us to offer a fresh take on this legendary competition.
“Netflix France will continue to explore new territories in the world of sport. We have several exciting projects in development that will enable us to tell unique stories in other sporting disciplines, such as ‘Le bus: Les Bleus en grève.’, which will be about the French football team’s strike during the 2010 World Cup, at Knysna in South Africa.”
A release date for the third season of the series has yet to be confirmed. However, it’s known to have followed the 2024 edition of Tour de France. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Netflix updates as we have them.
