It’s been reported that Netflix has canceled a series from their platform after releasing just one season of the series. Interestingly, the series has been compared to the much more successful Yellowstone, so it goes to show that not all such projects are destined to receive the same treatment.
The outlet has suggested that “production timing and Netflix scheduling issues” could have been reasons for the show’s cancellation. Either way, it was rather unprecedented, and the first season ended on a cliffhanger as a result.
Interestingly, the series did have a successful start when it was first released on Netflix. In fact, the series is said to have secured “the second position on Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV shows list within the first week of launch,” and furthermore, received “6.4 million views in its first four days of screening,” as shared via C21Media.
As for the series itself, here’s what the outlet shared:
“Netflix ANZ confirmed that it would not be renewing Territory.”
The plot of the series, which uses Western tropes similar to Yellowstone, revolves around a livestock farm in Australia and various factions that battle for its control. With this type of premise proven to be a success with audiences, however, and the surprisingly high ratings, it’s a bit surprising that Netflix chose to cancel the show.
Netflix’s director of content for ANZ, Que Min Luu, shared the following statement regarding the cancellation:
“We are incredibly thankful to have had the chance to work with the wonderful cast and production team to bring Territory and the stunning Australian outback into the homes of millions around the world. Although we won’t be continuing with another season, we eagerly anticipate working with all of them again in the future.”
It’s definitely going to disappoint Netflix subscribers that were fans of the series Territory, especially with it being canceled on a cliffhanger with only one season. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more Netflix news as we have it.
