Marvel Studios has been gradually readjusting the way they approach television shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve seen this when Daredevil: Born Again went through a creative overhaul and announcements were made regarding the types of shows that were being planned for Disney Plus moving forward. Now it’s been revealed that three MCU shows have been shelved.
With so many projects under the Marvel umbrella, it’s no surprise that some things have to be shifted or outright canceled to make room for bigger priorities. This is now the case with a total of three different shows that were in development for the MCU.
The decision was made by Marvel Studios as part of their new initiative, referring to “a new model for producing television that’s emerged at Marvel in recent years.” This new model is referred to as a “more traditional” model for TV development, “with many more projects being developed than will ultimately be made, and showrunners being brought in to oversee each.”
Here’s what was revealed via Deadline:
“Marvel Television has paused development on three projects: Nova, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc.“
However, the outlet adds that while these projects have been reported in the past, they “were never officially greenlit.” Furthermore, this means that they “may still come to fruition at some point. The studio has simply shifted its priorities at the moment.”
Nova would have revolved around the comic book character of the same name who becomes the last member of the Nova Corps, an intergalactic police force, which grants him access to the Nova Force. Strange Academy would have reportedly revolved around Benedict Wong’s character Wong as he attempts to educate individuals with magical powers at an academy founded by Doctor Strange. Terror, Inc. would have revolved around the antihero Terror who can acquire other characters’ memories and abilities by incorporating their body parts into his own.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel Cinematic Universe updates including any other MCU changes as we have them. While it’s disappointing for fans of these characters to learn the television projects have been axed, there is always the chance that they could be revived or repurposed for new stories in the future.
