The 2016 film The Accountant is finally getting a sequel nearly a decade later. As fans can see below, the first official trailer has been released for The Accountant 2, which offers the return of stars Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and J. K. Simmons.
The cast of the new film also includes newcomers Daniella Pineda and Allison Robertson. The story brings all of these characters together when Affleck’s character, Christian Wolff, must solve the murder of an old acquaintance. Naturally, this requires the help of his brother, Bax, played by Jon Bernthal.
Here’s the official trailer for The Accountant 2:
Gavin O’Connor, director of The Accountant, returned to direct the follow-up. Likewise, screenwriter Bill Dubuque returned to write the screenplay for the film after having penned the original. So, while it’s taken quite some time to get off the ground, most of the creative crew and cast have returned to bring this sequel to life.
The first film was a rather big success at the time of its release, having earned $155.2 million at the worldwide box office with a $44 million budget. As such, the sequel was originally announced not long after the release of The Accountant in 2016. Obviously, however, it took quite some time before the follow-up was ready for production.
Interestingly, while Warner Bros. released the first film, they performed a deal with Amazon MGM Studios for the sequel. Now Amazon MGM Studios will release the film in the United States while Warner Bros. Pictures will handle the film internationally. It’ll be exciting to see, then, how the film performs compared with its predecessor. Especially as there are apparent plans to create at least one more follow-up film.
The Accountant 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on April 25, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on The Accountant 2 as we have them. For now, fans can finally enjoy the first trailer for the film.
