Jared Leto amused audiences with his take on Morbius, the titular character from Sony’s ill-fated Spider-Man spin-off. Now, however, a new rumor suggests Jared Leto could be getting another attempt at Marvel with a new role in the MCU, aka the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While this may surprise fans following the negative reception of Morbius and Sony’s decision to back-track their shared universe of Spider-Man spin-offs, it’s not completely unprecedented. Jared Leto is already set to star in Disney’s Tron: Ares, so he does have a strong connection with the company.
Interestingly, while Leto wouldn’t portray Morbius, the insider that shared the rumor also rules out another Marvel character. As shared by insider @MyTimeToShineH on X:

Obviously this should be taken with a grain of salt. Even if the rumor is accurate, Leto would only be in talks at this stage, so nothing is official yet. Regarding Ghost Rider, previous rumors have tied the character to Leto as a possibility. If that role is ruled out, it does beg the question what role Leto could be receiving instead.
Some fans have theorized a number of possible parts for Leto to play, and those include The Beyonder and Mr. Sinister. Of those, there isn’t any foundation for those theories, and Leto could just as easily play a variant of an existing character. Ultimately, we’ll have to see what happens, and whether or not Leto appears at all in any future MCU projects.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates regarding this rumor as we have them, including which role Jared Leto could tackle within the MCU. There are plenty of characters that Leto could portray, but whether or not he’d succeed when compared to the outcome of Morbius is another story.
