Disney Plus has become a rather diverse streaming service since its initial debut. Now, in addition to the family-friendly content that subscribers have come to expect, Disney Plus also offers R-rated fare for those whose permissions allow it. Now one controversial R-rated movie is dominating the Disney Plus streaming charts as a result.
At the time of this writing, this particular R-rated movie has broken into the Top 10 category globally for Disney Plus. The film, which is also an original IP, is specially sitting at the number 4 spot ahead of Inside Out 2 and just behind The Lion King. An impressive spot for a film of its ilk.
The film is actually a black comedy horror movie, which certainly explains its R-rating. Interestingly, it’s also something of a body horror movie, which should be a pleasant surprise for fans of the genre. This obviously makes it an odd pick to see doing so well on Disney Plus, especially amidst the likes of The Lion King or the highly-successful sequel to Inside Out, but it goes to show everything has an audience.
The film, titled Nightbitch, was first released on Hulu on December 27, 2024. In the time since then, however, it seems to have acquired enough attention to climb the charts on Disney Plus. Now with a number 4 spot, social media users are sharing the following reactions to the film online:
Just watched #Nightbitch, it was utterly incredible and I really felt it in my bones. Motherhood is a type of horror, we just don’t speak of it. It is far from all fun and play. Wouldn’t change it, but glad to see some representation.

Amy Adams stars in the film as Mother, a woman who discovers herself undergoing a transformation into that of a dog. It’s an interesting premise that also makes use of fellow cast members Scoot McNairy, Arleigh and Emmett Snowden, Zoë Chao, Mary Holland, Ella Thomas, Archana Rajan, Jessica Harper, Adrienne Rose White, Roslyn Gentle, Stacey Swift, and Darius De La Cruz.
Marielle Hellar directed the film in addition to writing the screenplay, itself based on the book of the same name by Rachel Yoder. For a project that first started production in 2022, it’s nice to see that its somewhat long journey to the screen is paying off.
