The Marvel Cinematic Universe is still pushing forward with numerous films and shows in development. Fans can expect many of their favorite characters to continue making appearances as the MCU branches out with these new projects. However, one rumor suggests that a Marvel character will be recast for future MCU appearances.
This rumor was shared by insider Daniel Richtman, and while it should be taken with a grain of salt, it’s not the most far-fetched report to have ever surfaced. Especially when one considers the character referenced in the rumor and how they’ve been portrayed in Marvel media so far. Of course, only time will tell how accurate the rumor turns out to be.
The character could always reappear in the MCU for other special appearances tied to the Multiverse. As always, fans should adjust their expectations accordingly – though this is all currently unconfirmed.
Here’s what Daniel Richtman shared:
“According to a recent casting grid Kitty [Pryde] and Gambit will be on the team for the reboot,” Richtman claimed.
The reboot, Richtman is referring to, is the upcoming X-Men movie being planned by Marvel Studios. Details regarding this project are being kept under wraps, but it’s been expected that the film would feature new actors to portray the titular X-Men. If so, then not only could Kitty Pryde and Gambit be part of the ensemble, but they would be examples of recasts as well.
This recast, if it happens, would occur not long after Channing Tatum‘s first appearance as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine. He was attached to the role for many years, though the Gambit movie sat in development hell. Deadpool & Wolverine finally gave Tatum the opportunity to play the character – but now it looks like that could’ve been a one-off occasion, with someone else taking on the role for the greater MCU.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more Marvel Cinematic Universe news as we have it. While it’s unclear if Gambit will be appearing in the MCU moving forward, a recast of the character does make sense, so we’ll have to see what happens in the future regarding this rumor. At least fans still had the opportunity to see Channing Tatum as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine.
