The Terrifier film franchise offered audiences a new horror icon: Art the Clown. Now the upcoming fourth installment, Terrifier 4, is set to tell the origin of the modern fan-favorite slasher villain. This is exciting news for fans who have been following along since Terrifier and beyond.
Franchise creator Damien Leone first introduced Art the Clown with the short films The 9th Circle and Terrifier. After attaching The 9th Circle to the anthology horror movie All Hallows’ Eve, work began on a feature-length Terrifier movie, and that became the surprise 2016 hit.
Since then, fans have been drawn to the Terrifier world, and Leone as well as Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton have been hard at work with expanding the franchise. Now, while using Instagram, Leone decided to celebrate his birthday with a little glimpse at the screenplay for the fourth installment and a caption that hints at what’s to come in the new follow-up.
Here’s what Leone shared:
“Thank you all so much for the amazing birthday wishes 🙏 ❤️✨ I’m truly blessed to know so many wonderful human beings. I might as well take advantage of this day and give all of the Terrifier fans a little present in return – The script for Terrifier 4 is under way and it is shaping up to be the most epic, horrifying, thrilling, emotional and satisfying conclusion to the Terrifier saga. I’ve personally never been so excited to see one of my own scripts translate to the screen like this one. P.S. I will finally reveal Art’s origin in this entry 😉🤡 Thank you all again 🙏🎂🎉”

Terrifier 3 broke major records at the box office, and furthermore, it became the highest-grossing unrated movie of all-time. With accolades like that, it’s no surprise Art the Clown is returning for another installment. While it could be his last, at least for the time being, we’ll at least get a glimpse into the killer clown’s origin before his current story is wrapped up in Terrifier 4.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Terrifier 4 as we have them. For now, fans can look forward to the highly-anticipated sequel and ponder how Art the Clown’s origins will be handled. This is an exciting time for fans of the franchise.
