The Scary Movie film franchise, which began in 2000, is set to make a major comeback. The Wayans Brothers are teaming up with Paramount and Miramax for the first time since Scary Movie 2 to bring us an all-new reboot. Additionally, Scary Movie 6 is slated to hit theaters in 2026!
This exciting news was shared via Deadline, where it was revealed that the highly-anticipated entry will be released on June 12, 2026. The new film will be hitting theaters and in addition to the Wayans, Rick Alvarez is also involved as a writer and producer on the project.
The original two Scary Movie films were both written and directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, while Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans also co-wrote the first two films and starred in them as well. They left the series beginning with the third installment, with this new sixth movie finally marking the Wayans Brothers‘ return to the brand they developed.
Marlon Wayans also shared an announcement for the new release date on Instagram, where he urged fans to mark their calendars:

Plot details for the sixth installment are currently being kept under wraps. However, given the franchise’s origins as a parody of Scream and the ongoing resurgence of that particular franchise, one can imagine that play a role in the new movie’s direction. Especially with the original creators coming back to help steer this project into fruition. It’s worth noting that the Ghostface-like killer from the first movie, Doofy Gilmore, was never apprehended. As such, many fans are hoping Dave Sheridan will reprise his role as the cop-turned-killer as well.
The new Scary Movie entry is scheduled to hit theaters on June 12, 2026. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Scary Movie reboot as we have them. As for now, it’s exciting to see the Wayans back for this entry. Fans have waited a long time to see them return to the series.
