A beloved HBO series is officially set to come to an end after four seasons on the network. While this will no doubt be disappointing for fans who hoped to see it run for much longer, it isn’t a premature cancellation. In fact, this has been revealed to be a planned ending for the show.
It can be quite difficult as a television viewer when so many streaming services and networks are prepared to cancel a series with little to no notice.
Fortunately, that isn’t the case with this particular series, which is set to return for a fourth and final season in the near future.
The show’s own creator Danny McBride was able to say as much. He insists that this fourth season feels like a proper ending for the show, and as such, it has come to an end. At the very least, fans will go into the fourth season knowing what to expect.
Here’s what he shared to Variety regarding the HBO series The Righteous Gemstones coming to an end:
“The Lord spoke to me and said it’s time to wrap this sucker up,” McBride began. “The story this season made the themes, ideas, and characters in ‘The Righteous Gemstones’ feel whole and complete. I have loved every second of working with this team for the past eight years, and there are some incredible payoffs, twists, and turns in store over the course of this wild final season.”
The show’s fourth season was first announced back in 2023. Fans will be able to begin watching the start of the show’s final season sometime in March. A more exact premiere date has yet to be revealed. For those unfamiliar, the series revolves around a family of televangelists who happen to be the titular Gemstone Family.
The cast of the series includes creator Danny McBride along with Adam Devine, John Goodman, Edi Patterson, Cassidy Freeman, Tim Baltz, Tony Cavalero, Greg Alan Williams, Skyler Gisondo, Walton Goggins, Jennifer Nettles, James DuMont, Jody Hill, Troy Anthony Hogan, Valyn Hall, Kelton DuMont, Gavin Munn, Steve Zahn, Stephen Dorff, Shea Whigham, Kristen Johnston, Lukas Haas, Robert Oberst, Stephen Schneider, Iliza Shlesinger, Sturgill Simpson, and Casey Wilson.

It’s disappointing for fans that The Righteous Gemstones is coming to an end, but at least the series was specifically designed to come to a close with its fourth season.
