Sadly, for subscribers of the streaming service Peacock, it’s just been announced that the platform has canceled a fan-favorite series. What’s worse is that this particular series only received one season on the service.
The history of this series can be traced back to 2022 when it was first picked up by Peacock in a straight-to-series order. It was actually an adaptation of a 1988 novel by Robert McCammon.
While the book had plenty of potential to fuel multiple seasons of storytelling potential, it seems that just wasn’t in the cards.
As shared by Deadline regarding the cancellation:
“The horror thriller series ‘Teacup‘ has been canceled at Peacock after just one season.”
Teacup, based on the novel Stinger, made its premiere on Peacock in October 2024. Now, just a few months later, the horror thriller show has been axed. Interestingly, it was received quite well on the service, both with viewers and critics. While it was well-received, however, Deadline notes that “it failed to make a dent on the Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts.”
As such, one can assume that Stinger didn’t perform well enough for Peacock to justify another season. While this is absolutely disappointing for fans of the series, it is another example of a business trying to provide products that sell well above all else.
Stinger is finished, however the production label behind it, Atomic Monster, is far from done with Peacock. The studio, ran by James Wan, currently has a deal with Peacock to produce an espionage drama starring Simu Liu.
The series revolved around a group of people in rural Georgia after they group up to survive against a mysterious threat. The cast included Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Chaske Spencer, Kathy Baker, Boris McGiver, Caleb Dolden, Emilie Bierre, and Luciano Leroux.
