Actor Armie Hammer had a major acting career going until allegations of sexual abuse surfaced. In fact, the actor was widely popularized for allegations of cannibalistic tendencies as well. After an acting hiatus that stretches back to 2021, however, it looks like Armie Hammer is returning for Uwe Boll’s new movie The Dark Knight.
Interestingly, however, this film has nothing to do with Christopher Nolan’s Batman movie of the same name. In fact, it has nothing at all do with Batman. In actuality, the film is an original concept written by Boll himself. Moviegoers may recognize Boll’s past projects which include House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark.
Now, as shared via Variety, Armie Hammer will star in Uwe Boll’s The Dark Knight as the titular character. While it doesn’t revolve around Batman, it does revolve around a crime-fighting vigilante. Hammer will play this part for the film which begins shooting in Croatia on January 27, 2024.
Here’s what else the outlet had to share regarding the project:
“In ‘The Dark Knight,’ based on an original script by Boll, Hammer plays Sanders, who takes justice into his own hands as he sets out to hunt down criminals. While his crusade transforms him into a social media sensation and a hero in the eyes of the public, the local police chief sees him as a menace to society and aims to take him down.”
Boll shared the following statement:
“The story of ‘The Dark Knight’ couldn’t be a more current topic, and I’m excited to bring it to life with this excellent cast.”
For those worried it might draw confusion regarding Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight, producer Michael Roesch insists that “our movie is very different from Chris Nolan’s movie, so there is no danger of confusion.”
He further had this to say about Armie Hammer’s involvement:
“With Armie Hammer in the lead role and more great actors to be announced soon, and with an outstanding script, we are excited to build up on the great response we got for ‘First Shift’ and ‘Run,’ and will have another strong movie soon,” Roesch added.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding The Dark Knight as we have them. It’ll certainly be interesting to not only see Armie Hammer make a return to acting, but that he’ll be doing so with the collaboration of Uwe Boll.
