With each new era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney and Marvel Studios have found new innovative ways to tell their wide variety of superhero stories. Disney Plus was a gamechanger when it came to releasing new shows and specials set in the MCU, and now Marvel has a plan for future Disney Plus MCU shows in place.
For the most part, the MCU shows released on Disney Plus were used to directly setup new movies. For example, WandaVision set up Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier set up Captain America: Brave New World.
It seems like Marvel Studios will be taking a more traditional route when preparing new television shows, however, as explained by Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum. He explained as much while speaking with Entertainment Weekly and how, beginning with Agatha All Along, their shows will now all include showrunners.
“One thing we are doing is we’re developing a lot of shows now simultaneously. So, in a way, we’re making television more in a traditional style where we are going to write multiple pilots and show bibles before we decide what we want to produce and actually bring to the screen, which gives us an opportunity to experiment and also to plan all sorts of different Marvel sandboxes.”
Fans will also get to see this new strategy play out with the upcoming Disney Plus series Daredevil: Born Again. With so many anticipated shows being carefully planned and produced by Marvel Studios, it’s clear that they want their brand to succeed on Disney Plus in ways that previous MCU shows have not.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel Cinematic Universe updates as we have them. It remains to be seen how this plan will benefit Marvel Studios in the long-term, but given that it’s how traditional television has operated essentially since its inception, then it could be a beneficial step forward for the shared universe of superheroes and supervillains.
