The DC Universe is finally getting off the ground. Now that the DCU animated series Creature Commandos is airing on Max, fans are prepared to see the first live-action feature in the highly-anticipated cinematic universe. Now, as you can see below, the first trailer for James Gunn’s Superman has been released online.

The new DCU feature will be the first live-action DC film since the DCEU was disbanded. David Corenswet has been chosen to tackle the titular role, which was both written and directed by DC Studios co-head James Gunn. It was initially announced in 2022, so it’s exciting to see the first footage from the motion picture.

Here’s the official trailer for James Gunn’s Superman:

In addition to launching the DCU, the film will also be the first film in the franchise’s first “chapter.” This chapter is titled Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, and also includes the aforementioned Max animated series Creature Commandos. While these projects do reference one another, such as the inclusion of Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr.

It is worth noting that the films in the DCU are also intended to be capable of standing on their own. If this trailer is any indication, then that will definitely be the case with James Gunn’s Superman, which seems to be a proper retelling of classic Superman lore.

David Corenswet stars in the film as Superman. The cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Nathan Fillon as Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern among numerous other stars and characters expected to appear.

Superman is scheduled to hit theaters next year on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated DCU film as we have them. In the meantime, however, this newly-released trailer is a great look at what’s to come.
