The Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming together for two new Avengers movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, and we’ve been getting frequent updates now that Doomsday is gearing up to shoot. In fact, a surprise Marvel character has been confirmed to make their return to the MCU for the new Avengers movie.
We’re already getting quite a few unexpected appearances in Avengers: Doomsday. For starters, it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be making his own return to the MCU. While this would be surprising enough, it was confirmed that he would be playing Doctor Doom in the film.
For this particular announcement, however, the surprise return is that a beloved Marvel cast member will be reprising the role they’re known for. As such, it’s an exciting addition for fans who hoped to see them again. As shared via Deadline:
“Sources tell Deadline that Hayley Atwell is expected to reprise her Agent Carter role in the film, which Anthony and Joe Russo are returning to direct and Marvel president Kevin Feige on board to produce.”
It’s currently unknown how exactly her MCU character will fit into the Avengers film, and as such, it should be taken with a grain of salt. But with the Multiverse and variants of beloved characters involved, just about anything is possible. Fans last saw Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter in the animated series Marvel’s What If…? and a variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness who ultimately died by Scarlet Witch.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel Cinematic Universe news as we have it. As for now, it’ll be exciting to see how Hayley Atwell fits into the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday as Captain Carter. Especially with reports that Chris Evans will be returning as well.
