It’s certainly a disappointment when a beloved Netflix series is canceled. Especially when such a series ends with cliffhangers and unresolved storylines. As such, there’s one particular series that Netflix decided to cancel which did end up with those issues – and fans are still frustrated because of it.
What’s perhaps most frustrating about this cancellation, however, is that it wasn’t a conventional decision to ax the series. In fact, fans were left indefinitely hanging regarding whether or not the series would be renewed for a third season. Eventually, however, it was revealed that it would not be.
Now, even years after this decision was made by Netflix and executive producer David Fincher, it’s clear that fans are still upset. Quite a few of them still complain on social media about Netflix’s decision not to bring the series back for another season.
The Netflix series that fans are so upset about seeing canceled is none other than Mindhunter, a show created by Joe Penhall that was based on the 1995 true crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. Here are some of the posts you can find on social media platforms like X regarding the series:
@netflix and David Fincher, can we please have another season of Mindhunter, you’re not telling me this is done

I am still tying to understand how Netflix didn’t come out with another season of Mindhunter. They did a disservice to all of us.

Having finished my rerun of Mindhunter s1 i can once again with conviction say Netflix made a HUGE CATACLYSMIC mistake cancelling the show!
Cause s1 alone is phenomenal
S2 not quite as good but dam close!
It deserves a season 3 GODDAMIT! pic.twitter.com/Qattlszem2— IFFY (@Justafilmguy24) December 4, 2024
#Mindhunter . I will never forgive @netflix @NetflixIndia for ending the series abruptly. https://t.co/14sHfVXB73

The cast of the series included Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv, and it revolved around the scenarios that led to the creation of the Behavioral Science Unit in the Federal Bureau of Investigation aka FBI. This includes the origins of criminal profiling in the 1970s and what led to the discovery and understanding of some of the United States’ most notorious serial killers.
It was a series that was incredibly well-received by viewers and critics, and with Netflix’s current fascination with true crime, it can be quite surprising to see that this series was canceled with a mere two seasons on the platform. Of course, with the support of fans on social media, perhaps one day Mindhunter could still find a way to come back around.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Netflix and any other shows similar to Mindhunter that have been canceled – or, perhaps more optimistically, renewed to continue for another season. As for now, fans can still watch the two seasons of Mindhunter we do have on Netflix.
