The fan-favorite 1997 horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer is officially receiving an all-new sequel following the events of 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. If that wasn’t exciting enough, original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. have been tapped to reprise their roles for the follow-up, and now Sarah Michelle Gellar is also teasing I Know What You Did Last Summer fans.
Gellar previously hinted at her friendship with the film’s director, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, and that she was helping her in terms of continuity with the original movie. Now, however, Gellar might be teasing an even deeper involvement with the sequel. As you can see below, Gellar shared a chair from the set of the film.
“Scooby Doo 3 coming soon,” she joked in the post’s caption, tagging her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. who starred in the original two live-action Scooby-Doo features alongside Gellar after they both worked on the original I Know What You Did Last Summer. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson was also tagged.

Of course, it’s worth noting that this doesn’t exactly guarantee Gellar will appear in the movie. In fact, she previously denied having a role. Especially given the fact that her character – Helen Shivers – officially died in the 1997 original. Then again, horror movies have a way of surprising the audience with such things.
The new reboot is set to hit theaters on July 18, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional I Know What You Did Last Summer updates as we have them. In the meantime, this is an exciting update for the film, even if it doesn’t confirm Gellar’s involvement as an actor. It’s nice enough knowing she’s on set supporting her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. who is appearing in the film and her friend, director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
