It’s always disappointing to learn that a series has been canceled. This is now the case with yet another 2024 show, this time an ABC series that the network decided to cancel after just one season.
As such, fans aren’t going to see a renewal. The cancellation is due to a combination of “modest Nielsen ratings” and indications that the show did not “generate enough ad revenue” for the show’s producer, Studio 1, according to a recent report detailing the show’s cancellation.
While the series didn’t have what it took to return for another season, the outlet did note that it “might be explored again in some way in the future.” Otherwise, things don’t look good for the show which only lasted for a total of ten episodes.
Here’s what the outlet had to share regarding the unfortunate cancellation:
“ABC has opted against a second season of the summer game show Lucky 13.”
Shaquille O’Neal and Gina Rodriguez co-hosted the show together. The two Lucky 13 hosts would ask contestants 13 true-or-false trivia questions throughout each episode, and after answering, they’re further asked to guess how accurate their responses are. This determines whether or not they’ll win the $1 million jackpot offered.
Lucky 13 was created by Adrian Woolfe. He was formerly involved with the British studio Celador, which happened to be the creators of the much more popular gameshow Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. And while Lucky 13 did not see that same level of success, it’s certainly impressive for Woolfe’s gameshow concept to have aired on ABC for a full season. The series even started off with one of the network’s highest-rated premieres for a summer series before ratings began to fall.
