While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is built around an incredible cast of actors, there is always room for more to join the MCU, and that happens to be the case with Denzel Washington. The beloved actor, who’s set to appear in this year’s upcoming film Gladiator II, just revealed that he’s going to appear in Black Panther 3.
Washington explained this while speaking with TODAY. While most actors would be happy to be involved with the MCU given what the franchise is, Washington more specifically only wants to be involved for its director. Ryan Coogler seems to have written a part for Washington specifically.
Here’s what he shared:
“For me, it’s about the filmmaker, especially at this point in my career,” he began. “I’m only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make; probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done…Ryan Coogler’s writing a part for me in the next Black Panther.”
With that in mind, it’s still unknown what character he could be playing in the highly-anticipated superhero film. There are certainly endless possibilities, however, especially as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand. Many fans have even theorized that Washington could be playing the villain of the film, while others think the character known as Blue Marvel in the comics might be a possibility as well.
Ultimately, Black Panther 3 is in early development, so it might be some time before plot details like that are revealed. But this is an exciting announcement to have as Ryan Coogler and Kevin Feige continue their work on the project.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more Marvel Cinematic Universe news as we have it. For now, it’ll be interesting to not only see how Denzel Washington fits into the MCU, but what character he could be playing in the Black Panther: Wakanda follow-up. Hopefully more news will be revealed as we get closer to the Black Panther 3 release date.
