Drea de Matteo has made some interesting career decisions over the years. After he Emmy Award-winning role in The Sopranos, de Matteo eventually drifted away from her acting career. In fact, due to her stance on vaccines during the pandemic, she completely replaced her former job with OnlyFans. Now Drea de Matteo has revealed that at one point she even turned down Marvel at one time because she felt she had “enough money.”
Many actors make it their goal to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe these days. After all, the MCU is essentially the world’s biggest pop culture franchise – it makes sense that so many people would want to be part of it. Whether it’s for popularity or money, it seems to be the ultimate goal in both regards.
For de Matteo, however, she felt otherwise as revealed in an interview with Variety. First, she explained how her acting career began to crumble apart during the pandemic:
“Without a phone call or an email. Just told me through my manager, and that was that,” she began. “I couldn’t work anymore. To be demonized over a medical choice when they keep screaming, ‘Pro choice,’ I’m like, ‘Do you guys hear yourselves?’”
She continued:
“I tried not to be outspoken. I tried to be under the radar. But I joined OnlyFans to save my f*cking house. And it was kind of, in a weird way, a political statement. Like a big ‘f*ck it.’ Get comfortable being uncomfortable. That was my statement.”
However, the pandemic wasn’t the first issue with her acting career. In fact, de Matteo revealed she felt herself drifting away from acting before that. This is one such reason Drea de Matteo decided to turn down working for Marvel:
“I was offered some Marvel thing, and I turned that down because my son was crying every time I’d go to Canada to just guest star on something,” she recalled. “And I was like, ‘F*ck it. I’m not gonna do it. I have enough money to get us through the winter.’ I don’t want to be this Hermes-toting, Gucci shoe-wearing person. I just didn’t give a shit. I mean, I wear sweatpants and T-shirts all day.”
