Actor James Van Der Beek has made a serious announcement regarding his health. According to the actor, who’s known for having performed in Dawson’s Creek, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and The Rules of Attraction, he has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
Van Der Beek revealed as much in a statement made to People. The 47-year-old actor shared that he has been dealing with this diagnosis in private, and that he is “taking steps to resolve it.” As shared below:
“I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family.”
However, James Van Der Beek is also choosing to stay optimistic about the diagnosis. “There’s reason for optimism,” he adds, “and I’m feeling good.”
In addition to facing this health condition with an optimistic perspective, Van Der Beek is also choosing to continue working during this time. The outlet notes that he recently appeared in an episode of Walker while also preparing to star in a Tubi original film later this month titled Sidelined: The QB and Me.
With an impressive career that spans the last few decades, Van Der Beek has grown to have quite the fanbase over the years. As such, fans have shared their support for the actor on social media, and everyone is rooting for Van Der Beek to overcome his colorectal cancer.
“Colorectal cancer, per the American Cancer Society, stars in the colon or the rectum,” the outlet notes, “which makes up the large intestine in the digestive system.”
