The 2009 horror movie Orphan introduced Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther, a modern day horror icon that finally got a follow-up with 2022’s prequel Orphan: First Kill. Now it’s been announced that Isabelle Fuhrman will return once again with Orphan 3 from Lionsgate.
The newest continuation of 2009’s Orphan comes from Lionsgate this time around, with the studio having just announced their association as the film’s distributor. Dark Castle Entertainment is set to once again act as the film’s production label.
As shared via Variety:
“The feature — of which plot details are currently being kept under wraps — was announced by production banner Dark Castle Entertainment, with Lionsgate set to launch the project at the American Film Market this week.”
Although plot details are scarce, we do know that in addition to Fuhrman’s return, fans will see the return of Orphan: First Kill writer David Coggeshall as writer and director William Brent Bell as director. Hopefully, then, the new film will live up to its recent predecessor which received acclaim from fans and critics alike.
Dark Castle Entertainment Co-CEO Norman Golightly shared the following statement:
“Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the ‘Orphan’ saga,” Golightly began. “With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that ‘Orphan 3’ will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike.”
Hopefully more details will be released in the near future. First Kill was an interesting venture as not only was it a prequel, but Fuhrman returned to portray an even younger version of her character Esther from Orphan – albeit now with the challenge of performing as an adult. The film used a variety of techniques to make her appear like a child again, so it’ll be interesting to see what’s in store for Orphan 3.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Orphan 3 from Lionsgate and Dark Castle Entertainment as we have them. As for now, it’s certainly exciting to know this sequel has been given the greenlight. Especially since fans of Orphan and Orphan: First Kill have been eager to see more of Esther.
