Disney is preparing the craft another live-action adaptation of an iconic animated character, this time placing their focus on Prince Charming. The character, who originates from their animated telling of Cinderella, is set to be played by Chris Hemsworth as the Prince Charming movie now has a director.
These surprising developments were shared by Deadline, with the outlet confirming that Chris Hemsworth is currently in talks to play Prince Charming for the film. Additionally, the outlet has revealed that Paul King is attached to direct the picture. For those unfamiliar, King previously directed Paddington, Paddington 2, and 2023’s Wonka.
It was also revealed that in addition to acting as director, King co-wrote the screenplay for Prince Charming with Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker. Interestingly, it’s been stated by insiders “that the film will not specifically be linked to Cinderella.” As such, we may see a version of the character that more loosely represents the love interest for all of Disney’s different princesses.
Aside from that, plot details for the project are being kept under wraps. As such, it’s unclear what direction Disney could be going in with this live-action adaptation. Though the studio has created loose adaptations or character-focused spin-offs in the past, they generally focus on creating more direct remakes of their animated tales.
Ultimately, we’ll have to see what happens. Now that Chris Hemsworth is in talks to star, however, it hopefully won’t be much longer before more information regarding the project is released. This would, of course, include other cast members or plot details.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Prince Charming film starring Chris Hemsworth and set to be directed by Paul King as we have them. As for now, it’ll be interesting to see how this movie is pieced together, especially without following a specific story.
