Fans of Stephen King are no doubt drawn to watching adaptations based on his classic work this time of year. Fortunately, it’s quite easy to do so with modern streaming services, and that means fans can even watch one Stephen King adaptation with a particularly twisted ending for free.
This film, released in 2007, was distributed at a time when most moviegoers were already familiar with Stephen King. Nonetheless, even several decades of adaptations couldn’t prepare viewers for how shocking this ending turned out to be. Especially when it wasn’t even the ending that King wrote for his original novella that the adaptation was based on.
As such, this has led to some divisiveness in the horror community. For most viewers, however, they tend to find some enjoyment out of the critically-acclaimed effort from director Frank Darabont. The filmmaker has tackled several King projects in the past as well, with this film being yet another example that the director knows his stuff.
The Stephen King film, titled The Mist, is currently streaming for free on Tubi. It’s always been a fairly popular effort due to the film’s cast of colorful characters who find themselves trapped inside of a supermarket. What’s so terrifying about that is that they’ve taken to the location for shelter while their town is enveloped in a mysterious mist. To make matters worse, there are a number of disturbing monsters in said mist, forcing the survivors to deal with horrible creatures and their own paranoia.
Perhaps the ending of The Mist, however, is what’s most memorable about this excellent throwback to Lovecraft and classic King. No spoilers for those who haven’t seen it, but it’s certainly a cruel gut-punch for anyone that’s willing to stick around. And for those who might want to see what that could consist of – Tubi has you covered.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates regarding the latest titles to hit streaming, including those based on the works of Stephen King, as we have them. In the meantime, fans can check out The Mist on Tubi whether they’re watching for the first time or revisiting the surprisingly well-done and emotional monster movie.
