The Scary Movie film franchise first began in 2000, not long after Scream was released in 1996, and it began a series of horror film parodies that continue to be referenced and just as relevant today. Of course, fans tend to favor the franchise’s first two installments, which were created by the Wayans Brothers – Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans. Now it’s been revealed that a new Scary Movie film is in the works – with the Wayans set to return.
This is exciting news for the franchise, not only to see it make a comeback just after the success of Scream and Scream VI in theaters, but with its original creators involved. The first two films were written and directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, while Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans were also involved with writing and starred in the first two entries.
Now, as shared by Deadline, they’re set to return after being absent for the previous three films in the franchise. Miramax’s Jonathan Glickman released the following statement about their return to the series:
“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”
Likewise, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans delivered their own statement:
“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

Hopefully we’ll have more news soon regarding this project. Fans of the Scary Movie franchise have been eager for a reboot, and if the Wayans are now involved, it’s sure to satisfy. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the project as we have them.
