The Marvel Cinematic Universe has delighted fans across the globe with its Spider-Man trilogy featuring Tom Holland. Fortunately, Spider-Man: No Way Home is far from the end, as Tom Holland has confirmed the production start date for Spider-Man 4 – and now Sony Pictures has given the movie an official 2026 release date.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting news on Spider-Man 4, especially given the film’s shakeup in directors. Jon Watts directed the previous films which included Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. He declined to return for the fourth installment, and as of this writing, the studio seems to be looking at Destin Daniel Cretton as his replacement.
Sony has confirmed that Spider-Man 4 will be released on July 24th, 2026. As for the actual production, however, Tom Holland teased the start date for Spider-Man 4 while speaking with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. Here’s what Holland shared on that front, emphasizing that he’s especially excited to return as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, for the upcoming sequel:
“It’s happening,” he told Fallon. “Next summer we start shooting. Everything’s good to go. We’re nearly there. It’s super exciting. Yeah, I can’t wait.”
Other details for the sequel are being kept under wraps, but we know that the screenplay has been penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. While we don’t know anything about the film’s plot, there are certainly plenty of interesting directions for where the story could go next.
After all, Spider-Man: No Way Home successfully introduced a Spider-Man Multiverse with appearances from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, along with some of their respective enemies and the original actors that played them. Reports have stated that the next film could once again involve such elements, as allegedly requested by Sony, while other reports insist that Marvel Studios wanted a street-level storyline with characters like Kingpin and Daredevil.
Obviously we’ll have to wait to learn more, but if Holland is excited about the sequel, then that’s certainly a good sign for whatever idea the parties involved have decided on. Hopefully more details will be released in the near future. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Spider-Man and MCU updates as we have them.
