It looks like 2022’s Prey rejuvenated the Predator film franchise in more ways than one. In addition to Prey director Dan Trachtenberg’s upcoming film Predator: Badlands, it’s been revealed that another secret Predator movie is on the way.
What’s surprising about this newly-revealed project, however, is that it’s actually on the fast-track. The movie is actually scheduled to be released prior to Predator: Badlands. This is surprising, especially because fans were completely unaware that this movie was on the way.
It was recently revealed that Predator: Badlands has received a theatrical release date in November 2025. As shared via THR, however, they completed an interview with 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell just before the announcement. They asked if Badlands could receive a theatrical release date, and Asbell first played coy with a “yes and no” answer.
“We’ve actually done two of them,” Asbell said regarding some of Prey director Dan Trachtenberg’s ideas for new Predator movies. “Two are coming out next year. One I can’t talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action Predator film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand. That’ll be out theatrically sometime next year.”
He emphasized that we can expect not just one but two Predator movies next year from Dan Trachtenberg:
“There’s a secret Predator movie that will come out before the theatrical one but I can’t say anything about yet.”
He did, however, tease some of the plot details we can expect to see in Predator: Badlands:
“It’s titled Badlands and it is an absolutely bonkers idea. It is a sci-fi thing, but it’s not what everybody thinks it is. And I mean, it’s awesome. It is so nuts. But in Dan, we trust.”
As such, while this “nuts” take on the franchise will be released theatrically, the secret film will seemingly be released by other means, possibly straight to streaming prior to the release of Badlands. It’s definitely an interesting time for fans of the franchise and we’ll have to see how this works out for the next two Predator movies being released in 2025.
