The animated classic Lilo & Stitch is getting a live-action makeover from Disney. The studio has been actively adapting their library of animated feature films as live-action interpretations, though Lilo & Stitch is certainly going to be different given its sci-fi elements. Now fans know when to expect Lilo & Stitch as Disney has confirmed its 2025 release date.
The new release date, as confirmed at Variety, follows after the first look at the remake was released at this year’s D23 expo. It revealed that Stitch would be created via CGI, though with his likeness and iconic features intact. Now, according to the outlet, a more exact release date for the project has been scheduled.
As they were able to share regarding the Lilo & Stitch release date:
“‘Lilo & Stitch‘ will hit theaters on May 23, 2025.”
The film is intended to follow the same events as its animated counterpart, in which young Lilo discovers a blue alien named Stitch that she adopts as her very own pet. The creature, although chaotic at first, soon becomes a part of her family which also includes her older sister Nani.
Maia Kealoha has been cast to portray Lilo Pelekai in the film, while Sydney Agudong will portray Nani. Actor Chris Sanders is set to voice Stitch, a role he played previously for the classic animated version. Other cast members include Zach Galifanakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, Courtney B. Vance, and original Nani voice actress Tia Carrere among others.
Now that we know the film’s release date is set for this May, however, it shouldn’t be long before more glimpses at the new adaptation are unveiled. Especially with less than a year before the film is expected to be hitting theaters.
