This year’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 received mixed reviews from fans and critics, but nonetheless managed to have a profitable run at the box office. This is a positive first step for Lionsgate’s plans to reboot the franchise, which include releasing an entire new trilogy of Strangers films. Now the next film in this trilogy, The Strangers: Chapter 2, has received its first trailer.
The new footage includes the return of Madelaine Petsch as her story from The Strangers: Chapter 1 is continued. The teaser is quite vague about story details, but after surviving her encounter with the titular Strangers, it seems as though her paranoia has reached all-new levels. Specifically, it looks like anyone in her new location could be one of the masked killers.
Here’s the official trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 2:
While The Strangers: Chapter 1 wasn’t as much of a hit with viewers as the original two films in the series, as mentioned above it did make quite a bit of money at the box office. The film actually earned $47 million worldwide at the box office, so it seems like Lionsgate’s bet to create a trilogy of new Strangers films is paying off.
Of course, it remains to be seen if the second film of this trilogy will receive the same reception as its predecessor. At the very least, The Strangers: Chapter 2 looks like a more unpredictable take on the source material. The first chapter, while a return to basics, felt a little too much like the original film. Perhaps fans will respond more positively to this venture, especially if it’s as intriguing as this trailer suggests.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding The Strangers: Chapter 2, and the next film in the franchise The Strangers: Chapter 3, as we have them. For now, hopefully this teaser trailer will be enough to get fans more hopeful and even hyped for The Strangers: Chapter 2.
