Stephen King is already well-known for written some of the greatest modern-day novels and short stories, in addition to having inspired similarly great modern-day films and shows as a result. In more recent years, however, Stephen King has also become known for his recommendations – and now King is recommending the #1 thriller on Netflix for being “one of the best.”
It’s worth noting that this particular film isn’t just an underrated gem, but as mentioned, it’s currently performing so well on Netflix that it’s the #1 thriller on the platform.
It’s likely, then, that fans are already giving the film a watch if they haven’t yet – but it’s a true sign of validation when King himself agrees that the film is worth the attention.
Here’s the brief recommendation as shared by Stephen King on the social media platform X:
“REBEL RIDGE: If this is a Netflix original, it’s one of the best. A thinking man’s RAMBO. No diss to David Morrell,” King writes, referring to First Blood author and Rambo creator David Morrell at the end.

The 2924 thriller, released exclusively by Netflix earlier in September, is written, produced, directed, and edited by Jeremy Saulnier. It’s clear that this film comes straight from his vision, then, as he tells a story about former Marine Terry Richmond, played by Aaron Pierre, whose cousin was unjustly seized by corrupt police by means of civil forfeiture.
It’s clear, then, what Stephen King means when he makes comparisons between this Netflix thriller and the Rambo franchise. At a time when that brand has become more associated with action than the social commentary it once sought, however, Rebel Ridge certainly does stand out.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding author Stephen King and any other recommendations he might have to offer. It’s certainly interesting to see what such an iconic figure has to say about the latest films and shows, especially when streaming can often make it difficult when deciding what to watch next.
