It’s been officially confirmed that AMC Networks has canceled one of their fan-favorite shows, sadly only after airing one season of the series on their platform. The series itself was actually a follow-up of another popular series which initially aired on BBC.
For this particular follow-up series on AMC, however, it seems to have lacked the successful ratings of its predecessor. While there are fans, it just didn’t bring in the numbers that its flagship series once did.
Therefore, it’s not much of a surprise that the series has been outright axed – though it can be frustrating for those who hoped to see it continued.
Here’s what we know regarding the show’s cancellation as shared via Variety:
“‘Orphan Black: Echoes‘ has been canceled at AMC Networks.”
The outlet continues to add the following regarding the series starring Krysten Ritter and, which, in addition to AMC, also aired on BBC America and AMC Plus:
“‘Echoes‘ failed to capture the same kind of acclaim that ‘Orphan Black‘ enjoyed, with the new series capturing just a 60% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.”
Of course, the original Orphan Black series would go on to run for five seasons, with star Tatiana Maslany earning both an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the series. It’s unfortunate that Orphan Black: Echoes will never have the opportunity to reach similar levels of success, but hopefully this won’t mean the permanent end of the franchise for longtime fans. It does, however, mean the permanent end of Echoes – which is certainly a shame.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Orphan Black franchise and any other television news as we have it. While Orphan Black: Echoes didn’t last anywhere near as long as its predecessor, at least fans can still enjoy the wealth of episodes that both shows together have provided over the years.
