The Terrifier film franchise is one of horror’s most recent examples of a true slasher icon. The property’s signature villain, Art the Clown, has entered pop culture stardom and it seems as though there’s no going back. In fact, Terrifier creator and franchise director Damien Leone has already confirmed Terrifier 4 is on the way.
Of course, this may not be a surprise for fans that already assumed Art the Clown would return for another round of mayhem following Terrifier 3. But it’s always nice to hear straight from the director that that’s still the plan. Leone revealed as much while speaking to a group of fans at a Q&A for the premiere of Terrifier 3 at Fantastic Fest.
Here’s what he shared via Variety:
βYes there will be a βTerrifier 4.ββ
Other details regarding the fourth installment of the hit horror film franchise have yet to be released. With that in mind, fans certainly know what they’re getting into when it comes to Art the Clown, and that means plenty of blood and gore thrown at the screen. The franchise’s mythology has also been gradually expanded with each installment, so it’s possible that we’ll learn even more about Art the Clown and the subtly supernatural world that surrounds him.
Interestingly, the third film in the series moves away from the Halloween setting of the first two Terrifier films and ventures into Christmas Eve. It’s unknown if a fourth film could tackle a different holiday, return to the franchise’s Halloween roots, or once again see Art the Clown wreaking havoc during a white Christmas. But there are certainly any number of possibilities for the character.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Terrifier film franchise, including the upcoming sequel Terrifier 3 and the newly-announced Terrifier 4, as we have them. It’s definitely exciting that horror fans can have a new slasher icon to look forward to seeing regularly on the big screen, so hopefully more updates will be given in the near future.
