The next two Avengers films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, are expected to be massive Multiverse-themed crossovers. In the spirit of other recent Multiverse-themed projects from the MCU, then, that means we can expect plenty of unexpected characters to have surprising scenes together. According to one such report, that may include Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
The two characters were part of some of the earliest Marvel feature films to be released. Of course, they also existed in separate continuities, so it was never a possibility for the two to meet until Disney not only acquired Fox but reintroduced Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine with Deadpool & Wolverine. Now that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man has also been reintroduced in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s certainly a possibility.
This possibility was shared by insider Alex Perez at Cosmic Circus. When asked about the possible interactions that he’s looking forward to in the upcoming Avengers films, he specifically mentioned Maguire and Jackman as major players that Marvel Studios wanted to come together.
“Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is probably going to be every Marvel fan’s fantasy going into Secret Wars and I know that they’re doing everything in their power to make this interaction and more legacy character interactions a reality,” Perez begins, “but it has to be something meaningful like it was when we saw the Resistance in Deadpool and Wolverine, not just some throwaway sequence that’s meant to be a one and done.”
As such, if an interaction between the two characters does happen, then it will have to be something that is meaningful to the film’s plot. Obviously this can be difficult as the two characters haven’t yet met one another, but given their importance to fans, it might not be too difficult to connect with them on an emotional level.
This information does need to be taken with a grain of salt, but given that the Multiverse is an actual thing these days, it’s not exactly impossible. Hopefully more details will be revealed in the near future. We’ve already gotten some major surprises confirmed, like Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU albeit as Doctor Doom.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel Cinematic Universe updates as we have them, including those pertaining to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. If this Spider-Man and Wolverine crossover does end up happening, then it will certainly bring things to an all-new level.
