The upcoming Disney Plus series Daredevil: Born Again is following its predecessors in more ways than one. The series will once again see the return of actors Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as Daredevil and Kingpin, respectively, in addition to several other familiar faces. Now, according to Brad Winderbaum, the series will also include “some of the most brutal action” in the MCU, which might not be too surprising for those familiar with the first Daredevil series.
Of course, knowing that there is a different team involved with this new show and a new platform for it to premiere on, fans naturally have questions about how much will carry over into Born Again. Fortunately, Winderbaum, who serves as the head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, assures fans that there’s nothing to worry about.
Here’s what he shared while speaking with EW:
“I’ll tell you, some of the most brutal action we’ve ever brought to the screen is coming in Daredevil: Born Again, which isn’t a horror show, but really it packs a lot of power and there’s a lot of visceral action, to say the least,” he says.
Winderbaum mentioned “horror,” which is something that the MCU is beginning to dive further into with projects like Agatha All Along and Marvel Zombies. While Daredevil: Born Again doesn’t exactly fit into that category, it is impressive to consider that Winderbaum thought of the series when discussing action and scenes of brutality.
For those other shows, Agatha All Along and Marvel Zombies, they were included in Winderbaum’s wider discussion about the variety of Marvel and how it’s up to the filmmaker to choose which cues to use on the screen:
“I think that it goes back to the filmmaker’s intent,” he explains. “The horror on screen in Agatha is going to be different than the horror on screen in Marvel Zombies, is going to be different than the horror on screen in Blade. It was different than the horror on screen in Moon Knight. It really depends on the vision of the filmmaker on what horror cues you’re pulling from. And that’s not just unique to horror. It’s unique to any genre we’re playing with. Obviously, there’s many different ways to tell a story.”
Of course, we’ll have to see how these new projects pan out. For now, however, it looks like they’re all being designed to succeed in their own unique ways – with Daredevil: Born Again living up to its predecessor in the process. Especially if the action scenes in Daredevil: Born Again really are that “brutal” and “visceral.”
