Disney Plus is certainly familiar with canceling television shows or even removing them from their platform entirely. Now, however, Disney Plus has officially canceled a highly-anticipated series even before its release on their service.
This information was actually shared by one of the show’s stars: Bryce Dallas Howard. She was set to lead the cast of the sci-fi Disney Plus series, which is quite unfortunate to know now that it’s been canceled. Additionally, she wasn’t able to offer any specific details on the matter.
Of course, knowing that Disney Plus has been trying to cut costs with their shows and films, it’s likely that this was the reason.
This was shared by Howard during an appearance at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto:

A Witch Mountain series must’ve not been a priority for Disney Plus, and therefore, an easy choice to cancel before its release. At a time when all streaming services seem to be acting in a similar nature, however, it’s not exactly surprising even though fans looking forward to the project may be upset.
The TV series would have been the second major remake of the 1975 Disney film Escape to Witch Mountain which received several sequels back in the day. The film was popularly remade in 2009 as the blockbuster film Race to Witch Mountain.
In addition to Howard, the cast was said to have included Isabel Gravitt, Levi Miller, Bianca Norwood, and Jackson Kelly. Meanwhile Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett were set to write.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Disney and their decisions regarding Disney Plus as we have them. It’s certainly a disappointment for fans of Escape to Witch Mountain to see that the new Witch Mountain series won’t be happening. Hopefully, however, the brand can be revived in another way with enough time.
