The Toy Story film franchise has been one of the most successful and popular animated franchises of all-time. However, that doesn’t mean fans support every installment. In fact, beloved filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has shared that he’s refused to even watch Toy Story 4 for a big reason.
Tarantino revealed his stance regarding the Toy Story film series which first started in 1995 while speaking with Bill Maher. The two discussed a number of topics on Maher’s Club Random, and at one point, the topic of Toy Story 4 came up.
It may be interesting to see someone like Tarantino have such passionate thoughts on the matter. Surprisingly, however, his sentiments seem to be shared by most fans of the franchise. Especially with the recent announcements regarding Toy Story 5 and Disney’s divisive decision to continue the storyline with another Pixar movie.
Here’s what Tarantino shared via Club Random:
“The third one is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen… I have no desire to see the fourth one. You ended the story as perfect as you could, so I don’t care if it’s good, I’m done.”
Fans will no doubt be happy to hear that not only does Tarantino feel like Toy Story 3 is one of the best Toy Story movies, but he’s adamant about it being “one of the best movies” he’s “ever seen.” Now that’s an impressive statement, especially knowing how many films Tarantino has both seen and supported throughout his lifetime.
Of course, Toy Story 3 finds the toys passed onto a new child while Andy, now grown up, decides to finally part ways with Woody and his other childhood playthings. It’s a bittersweet ending, one that follows after the toys nearly avoid their own deaths. It’s easy to see why fans don’t need anything past that, though Toy Story 4 certainly has its merits.
Fortunately, while there’s still another Toy Story movie in the works, fans can still do much like Tarantino and conclude their marathons with Toy Story 3 just ahead of reaching Toy Story 4. After all, it is a solid ending, and fans can decide for themselves if they’d like to stop the story there or see what Woody and his friends have gotten up to after the fact.
