The Marvel Cinematic Universe is bringing back a surprise MCU character. Additionally, the original actor will return to reprise his role and bring the surprise MCU character to life for the Marvel Cinematic Universe once again.
The surprise Marvel character, first portrayed nearly a decade ago in 2015’s hit Avengers: Age of Ultron prior to his upcoming return, has been a fan-favorite part of the MCU ever since. Of course, his appearances are far and few between, with most characters only mentioning him following his introduction.
Now, as shared via THR, we know that his return will happen in the upcoming Disney Plus series revolving around Paul Bettany’s Vision. Here’s what the outlet had to share regarding the details:
“James Spader is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“The Emmy-winning actor is set to reprise his role as the voice of robotic villain Ultron in Marvel Studios’ untitled Vision series.”
Indeed, Ultron himself is making a comeback in the MCU, with James Spader once again providing the villain’s voice. Obviously details are being kept under wraps, but we know that Terry Matalas will act as showrunner on the series which follows the events of WandaVision.
This does make sense, as Vision himself was initially created by Ultron. Of course, while Ultron turned against his creator – Tony Stark – Vision similarly turns against his own creator. Rather than assist Ultron in taking over the world, Vision decides to rebel against him and become a hero.
Obviously Ultron was killed by the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which does explain why he doesn’t appear regularly in the MCU. However, given Vision’s own recreation, we can assume something similar may happen with Ultron. Or, at the very least, perhaps Vision is being haunted by memories of his own “father.”
Ultimately, we’ll just have to see what happens as this new Vision series comes together. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we have them.
