The Friday the 13th franchise is slowly being prepared for a major comeback. We’ve known for years that A24 and Peacock have been developing a new take for television. However, original showrunner Bryan Fuller was removed from the project, which left a void for someone else to fill. Now we know who the new Crystal Lake showrunner will be.
Additionally, this showrunner has experience with handling major television productions based on major feature films. As such, he seems to be a perfect choice to bring the Friday the 13th franchise to a new audience and in a new medium.
Here’s what was shared via Deadline:
“Crystal Lake, Peacock’s upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series from studio A24, has found its new showrunner in Brad Caleb Kane.”
As mentioned, Kane has an experience with such projects. He’s actually the showrunner of the upcoming HBO series IT: Welcome to Derry which will precede the events of IT: Chapter One and IT: Chapter Two. He shared his own statement emphasizing his excitement for this new project:
“From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask,” said Kane. “Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”
Kane will serve on the project as showrunner, creator, writer, and executive producer. He’ll be joined by executive producers Victor Miller, Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barasmian, and Robert P. Barsamian.
