Amazon Prime, like many of its streaming peers, is dedicating to curating its platform. Unfortunately for many subscribers, that means they’ve had to watch their favorite shows get prematurely axed. Now another such fan-favorite series has been canceled by Amazon Prime Video after one season on their platform.
It’s unfortunate because viewers really were praising the series, and as you might imagine, they’ve since taken to social media to complain. Of course, the streaming era can be quite vicious regarding what gets renewed and what doesn’t.
Now, not even two months since the release of the series, Amazon Prime Video has made the decision to cancel the show altogether. Exact reasons haven’t been given, and while it has received a high critical response, it seems likely that the viewership numbers simply didn’t show enough support for another season.
Here’s the news as shared by Variety:
“‘My Lady Jane’ has been canceled at Amazon Prime Video,” the outlet was able to confirm. “The historical fantasy drama series aired one eight-episode season at the streamer, which dropped in its entirety on June 27.”
The series, which alters historical events from the year 1553, stars Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Kate O’Flynn, Rob Brydon, Abbie Hern, Isabella Brownson, Robyn Betteridge, Henry Ashton, Máiréad Tyers, Michael Workeye, Joe Klocek, Brandon Grace, and Will Keen.
Gemma Burgess created the series, in addition to having served as executive producer and co-showrunner with Meredith Glynn. The storyline was inspired by the book of the same name written by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Amazon Prime Video as we have them. It’s certainly unfortunate that My Lady Jane won’t be renewed for any additional seasons, but at least fans were able to enjoy the first season on the platform. Hopefully those involved will move onto other projects soon.
