The Alien and Predator film franchises are two of the biggest sci-fi and horror brands in pop culture history. The two properties have even crossed over in various different mediums, though results have certainly varied. Now Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez has teased his own pitch for a new Alien vs. Predator movie.
The possibilities for Alien vs. Predator were first teased with an Easter egg in Predator 2. The subtle inclusion of a Xenomorph skull led to comics, novels, and video games. However, it wouldn’t be until 2004 that a feature film would finally hit the big screen boasting the Alien vs. Predator moniker.
The film, being an obvious financial success, was followed by a less successful sequel titled Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem in 2007. Each film received negative reviews, with Requiem suffering at the box office as a result. The franchises have since operated on their own – though fans still see potential in an Alien vs. Predator movie made in the style of the original comics or games.
As such, fans might be happy to hear what Fede Alvarez has to say about Alien vs. Predator following the release of Alien: Romulus. Here’s what he shared via Deadline when asked about the possibility:
“Maybe it’s something I have to co-direct with my buddy Dan,” Alvarez began. Dan, of course, is a reference to Prey director Dan Trachtenberg. Prey was a major success in revitalizing the Predator brand and he’s already working on another stand-alone Predator flick.
“Maybe we should do like Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez did with From Dusk Till Dawn,” Alvarez continues. “I’ll direct a half, and he’ll direct another half.”

The possibility also depends on the success of these new stand-alone Alien and Predator projects, and whether or not fans still want to see AVP on the big screen. Regarding that particular crossover property, we last heard that an anime series was produced by 20th Century Fox prior to their acquisition by Disney. The series is now locked in their vaults.
However, with the Alien and Predator fandoms currently experiencing such a revival, perhaps a new crossover film – or a release for the anime series – could be possible. In the meantime, there are new stand-alone movies in the works, and even a television series based on the Alien world on the way.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Alien and Predator franchises and whether or not a new Alien vs. Predator film could ever go into development. As for now, it seems like the success of both Prey and Alien: Romulus have course-corrected the stand-alone narratives for each respective series.
